Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide focused post-anesthesia care to surgical patients during emergence and recovery
• Monitor vital signs, pain control, and neurological status; intervene promptly when changes occur
• Administer medications and IV therapies safely and document thoroughly
• Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and perioperative team members to optimize patient flow
• Educate patients and families about recovery expectations and discharge instructions
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the patient record and handoff clear information at transitions

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana
• Previous PACU or post-anesthesia recovery experience preferred
• BLS (Basic Life Support) required; ACLS preferred or willing to obtain
• Strong assessment and critical thinking skills in emergent post-op situations
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities in a fast-paced surgical environment
• Ability to manage multiple patients while maintaining attention to detail

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required

Knowledge & Skills

• Patient monitoring and recognition of post-anesthesia complications
• Pain management and administration of common PACU medications
• Airway management basics and oxygen therapy familiarity
• IV therapy, documentation, and electronic health record use
• Strong situational awareness, prioritization, and crisis response
• Compassionate patient/family education and effective handoff communication
