Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to Med-Surg patients during weeknight 12-hour shifts
• Assess patients thoroughly and monitor changes in condition, intervening promptly when needed
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately following hospital protocols
• Document assessments, interventions and patient progress clearly in the electronic health record
• Collaborate with physicians, therapists and multidisciplinary team members to coordinate care plans
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments and discharge plans in plain language
• Respond to emergencies and escalate concerns appropriately to ensure patient safety
• Support unit efficiency by triaging admissions, discharges and transfers during your shift

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Iowa or eligibility for state licensure
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
• Prior Med-Surg experience preferred (even one year helps you hit the ground running)
• Comfortable working 12-hour night shifts and managing a full med-surg patient assignment
• Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking and prioritization skills
• Team player attitude with effective verbal and written communication

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
• Diploma graduates with strong Med-Surg experience will be considered

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in medication administration, IV care and common med-surg procedures
• Solid patient assessment and vital sign interpretation
• Familiarity with electronic health records and accurate clinical documentation
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
• Customer-focused bedside manner and patient education skills
• Basic familiarity with post-op care, telemetry basics and wound care is a plus
