Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostic ultrasound exams and procedures across inpatient and outpatient settings to produce high-quality images for clinical interpretation
- Assist physicians and other medical staff during ultrasound exams and interventional procedures
- Complete accurate documentation for interpretation, reporting, archiving, and retrieval of exams
- Retrieve and review prior studies, reports, and orders to ensure timely and informed patient care
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to help the department meet clinical and regulatory goals
- Operate and learn hospital computer applications and imaging systems to maintain efficient workflows
- Provide compassionate patient care in a busy acute care environment — prioritize safety, comfort, and dignity
- Perform ancillary duties as needed to support proper distribution, billing, and archival of ultrasound studies
Qualifications
- ARDMS certification in at least one category (OB/Gyn or Abdomen/Small Parts) — required
- Advanced registry in a specialty (Fetal Echocardiography, Breast, Pediatrics, RVT, or Musculoskeletal) OR ten years of advanced practice experience with a commitment to obtain advanced registry within one year of hire
- American Heart Association BLS (must be obtained within 60 days of hire)
- Minimum two (2) years post-graduation experience in advanced ultrasound practice; five (5) years preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a complex acute care inpatient setting, including nights and on-call shifts
- Ability to lift and assist patients as required (up to repeated lifts of ~50 pounds) and meet physical demands of the role
Education
- ARDMS certification required (OB/Gyn or Abdomen/Small Parts)
- Advanced registry in a specialty preferred or ten years advanced experience with commitment to obtain registry within one year
- BLS (American Heart Association) required within 60 days of hire
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Sound clinical judgment, patience, discretion, and a professional demeanor
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Familiarity with hospital computer applications and imaging archiving/reporting systems
- Understanding of infection control, radiation safety, and bloodborne pathogen precautions
- Attention to detail in image acquisition, documentation, and archival
- Comfort assisting physicians during procedures and responding calmly to urgent clinical needs
- Commitment to continuous learning and participation in quality improvement activities
