Shift Type: 4 days per week (rotating days off), 8:00 AM - 6:30 PM; plus on-call: one weeknight and two weekend days per month, Day shift with rotating schedule and monthly on-call nights/weekends

Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare operating rooms by setting up sterile fields, instruments, and supplies before procedures
• Assist with patient transport, positioning, and safe transfers to and from the OR
• Perform instrument counts and maintain accurate records of sponges, sharps, and instruments
• Assist the surgical team by gowning/gloving, passing instruments, and anticipating needs
• Complete skin preparation and draping to ensure a sterile operative environment
• Handle, label, and care for surgical specimens following facility protocols
• Decontaminate and perform point-of-use cleaning of instruments and equipment
• Support efficient room turnover so the OR stays on schedule and patients receive timely care
• Apply dressings and assist with post-procedure patient care as directed

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Six months of OR technical experience or equivalent specialized training (on-the-job or military) required for non-certified candidates
• Graduate of an accredited OR technician program (ARC/STSA) or successful completion of an employer-approved training program preferred
• Certified Surgical Technologist (NBSTSA or NCCT) is a plus
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Military OR/LPN, dental assistant, ophthalmic technician, or medical assistant experience considered
• Evidence of training/documentation required for on-the-job or military-trained applicants

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Preferred: Graduate of ARC/STSA-accredited OR Technician program

Knowledge & Skills

• Sterile technique and sterile field setup
• Operating room setup and efficient turnover
• Patient preparation, positioning, and draping
• Surgical instrument handling, suture passing, and sponge/instrument counts
• Specimen collection, labeling, and handling
• Instrument decontamination and point-of-use cleaning
• Ability to assist surgeon with gowning/gloving and intraoperative needs
• Strong attention to detail, communication, and teamwork in a fast-paced OR environment
