Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert, compassionate care to immediate post-operative open-heart and CVICU patients from admission through discharge
• Monitor and manage invasive lines, A-lines, central lines, chest tubes and multiple IV pumps with precision
• Manage mechanical and non-invasive ventilation and provide ventilator support per protocols
• Perform continuous cardiac telemetry monitoring and interpret EKGs to identify acute changes
• Assess hemodynamic status and intervene promptly to stabilize patients
• Act as a clinical leader on the unit: precept new staff, support colleagues, and contribute to best-practice care
• Collaborate closely with providers, charge nurses, ICU leadership and allied health staff to deliver coordinated care
• Contribute to discharge planning and patient/family education to ensure safe transitions

Qualifications

• Current State of Montana RN licensure (required)
• Recent CVICU / Open Heart Recovery experience required (must be prepared to care for immediate post-op open heart patients)
• Current BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications (required)
• Demonstrated experience with ventilator management, invasive line care, chest tube management and telemetry
• Ability to operate advanced medical equipment and multiple IV pumps
• Strong assessment skills and ability to intervene for deteriorating patients
• Clinical leadership and precepting experience preferred

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Degree from an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Advanced cardiac life support and basic life support protocols
• Telemetry and EKG interpretation for acute cardiac patients
• Hemodynamic monitoring and interpretation
• Mechanical ventilation and non-invasive ventilation management
• Central line, A-line and chest tube care
• Use and troubleshooting of multiple IV infusion pumps
• Effective communication, teamwork, and documentation skills
• Discharge planning and patient education for post-op cardiac populations
