Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, cognitive-communication and swallowing disorders for adult inpatients
• Perform bedside swallow evaluations and conduct/interpret FEES and Modified Barium Swallow Studies as indicated
• Develop and implement individualized plans of care and document thoroughly in Epic
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, PT/OT and interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes
• Provide patient and family education, training, and discharge planning to ensure safe transitions
• Utilize evidence-based dysphagia management strategies including compensatory techniques and therapeutic exercises
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain professional competency and certifications

Qualifications

• Active Alaska Speech-Language Pathology license preferred; pending licenses accepted with strong preference for AK license in hand
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 1 year of professional SLP experience; Acute Rehab Facility Experience required
• Prefer candidates with acute care experience and competency with FEES and Modified Barium Swallow Studies
• Comfort working with neurological diagnoses including stroke, TBI, spinal cord injuries and ventilator/trach patients
• Willingness to work approximately 2 weekend days per month when not on regular schedule
• Candidates must have a permanent address at least 50 miles from the facility (locals not accepted)

Knowledge & Skills

• Dysphagia management and bedside swallow evaluation
• Conducting and interpreting FEES and Modified Barium Swallow Studies
• Experience with Passy Muir valves, trach/vent care and Frazier Free Water Protocol
• Voice, resonance and laryngectomy management skills
• Skilled in documentation: assessment, plan of care, discharge and SLP evaluation coding
• Familiarity with Epic charting system
• Use of adaptive communication devices and augmentative communication strategies
• Patient and family education, in-service training, and interdisciplinary collaboration
