Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, patient-centered nursing care in the step-down unit, focused on acuity and recovery
• Continuously monitor and assess patients, interpreting telemetry and clinical data to guide care
• Administer medications and treatments safely and document care accurately in the medical record
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapy, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care
• Act quickly and effectively in emergent situations to stabilize patients and escalate when needed
• Educate patients and families about conditions, treatments and discharge instructions with empathy
• Contribute to unit-based quality improvement and patient safety initiatives

Qualifications

• Current, active Registered Nurse license in Louisiana or eligible to obtain one
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
• Prior experience in a step-down unit, telemetry, or progressive care setting preferred
• Strong clinical assessment skills, critical thinking and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills with a patient-focused attitude

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation
• Skillful in IV therapy, medication administration and titration under protocols
• Solid documentation practices and familiarity with electronic health records
• Ability to apply evidence-based practice and participate in performance improvement
• Strong time management, multitasking and prioritization in acute care settings
