Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide attentive, evidence-based nursing care to step-down (SDU) patients with a focus on safety and recovery
• Assess and monitor patient status, interpret clinical data, and escalate changes in condition promptly
• Coordinate with interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement individualized care plans
• Administer medications and treatments accurately while documenting thoroughly
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatment plans, and discharge expectations
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to a culture of continuous learning

Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted RN license (Louisiana) or multistate license valid for practice in LA
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred or as required by unit
• Experience in a step-down, progressive care, or telemetry setting preferred
• Strong clinical assessment skills and the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills with a patient-centered approach
• Willingness to work 12+ hour shift patterns and participate in unit-based scheduling

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; BSN preferred or equivalent nursing degree

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry and cardiac monitoring familiarity
• Proficient in medication administration and IV therapy
• Skilled in patient assessment and recognizing subtle clinical changes
• Electronic medical record documentation experience
• Ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, respiratory therapists, and ancillary staff
• Strong critical thinking and time management under pressure
