Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to patients in the step-down unit, focusing on safety and positive outcomes
• Continuously assess and monitor patient status, interpreting telemetry and vital signs to guide care
• Administer medications and treatments accurately and document care thoroughly
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and the multidisciplinary team to coordinate patient-centered care
• Respond promptly to changes in patient condition and participate in emergency interventions as needed
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatment plans, and self-care prior to discharge
• Maintain infection control, safety protocols, and unit standards to promote a healing environment

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license for the state of Louisiana required
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification preferred
• Previous experience in a step-down, progressive care, or telemetry setting preferred
• Strong clinical assessment skills, including telemetry rhythm interpretation and medication administration
• Ability to work 12+ hour shifts and function well in a fast-paced, team-driven environment

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation
• Solid understanding of progressive/step-down patient care needs
• Skilled in IV therapy, medication administration, and clinical documentation
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills for collaborating across disciplines
• Critical thinking and prioritization under changing clinical conditions
• Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR systems) and safe charting practices
