Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality med/surg nursing care to a diverse post-op and acute patient population
• Perform and document nursing assessments, interventions, and patient education using Cerner
• Maintain sterile technique and perform Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes as required
• Titrate Heparin per unit protocols and collaborate with the care team on patient plans
• Work proactively with the charge and resource RN to maintain safe nurse-to-patient ratios (typically 1:4-5)
• Participate in SIMs Lab competency assessments and complete required unit education (lifts, restraints, wound care)
• Float to other med/surg/telemetry areas when needed and support unit staffing and patient flow

Qualifications

• Active RN license (eligible to work in Arizona) and ability to meet facility credentialing requirements
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years nursing experience with recent med/surg experience required
• Must have Level 1 trauma experience (this is mandatory)
• Experience with 12-hour night shifts preferred and able to meet weekend/holiday requirements
• Competence with Foley catheter insertion and central line care; ability to pass SIMs Lab skills
• Successful completion of DYS exam prior to acceptance (2 attempts allowed) and pass/fail orientation exam on day 1
• Comfort with Cerner charting and willingness to float to telemetry or other med/surg units when needed
• No first-time travelers; travel teams must have own vehicle; facility requires natural hair color and no facial piercings; men must be clean-shaven for fit testing

Education

• BSN not required; nursing degree/diploma accepted. Active RN license required.

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong med/surg and acute care nursing knowledge
• Sterile field maintenance and central line dressing change technique
• Foley catheter insertion and urinary care
• Wound care fundamentals and lift/restraint procedures
• Familiarity with Cerner electronic charting
• Basic telemetry familiarity (preferred) and ability to work with RT on unit
• Ability to work independently on night shift and collaborate with charge/resource RN
• Critical thinking for common diagnoses like post-op care, sepsis, pneumonia, COPD, diabetes, and infections
