Roles & Responsibilities

Assess pediatric patients prior to procedures and document findings clearly and compassionately
Prepare patients and families for surgery by providing education and emotional support
Coordinate with surgeons, anesthesiologists and the perioperative team to ensure smooth patient flow
Verify orders, medications and allergies to maintain patient safety
Prepare and maintain pre-op supplies and equipment in a sterile, organized manner
Accurately complete pre-op documentation in the electronic health record
Advocate for the child and family, practicing family-centered care at every step

Qualifications

Active Registered Nurse (RN) license; ability to hold Washington licensure is preferred
Experience or strong interest in pediatric nursing and pre-operative care
Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
Excellent communication skills for working with children and families
Comfortable working in a fast-paced surgical/pre-op environment and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams

Knowledge & Skills

Pediatric assessment and age-appropriate communication techniques
Pre-operative patient evaluation and preparation
Medication administration and allergy verification
Familiarity with infection control and perioperative safety practices
Clear and timely documentation in electronic health records
Teamwork, triage decision-making and family-centered care approach
