Roles & Responsibilities

• Start and manage IVs and peripheral/PICC line care to maintain safe venous access
• Administer medications safely and monitor patient responses
• Monitor vital signs and cardiac rhythms, interpret dysrhythmias, and act promptly
• Provide patient education on treatments and self-care to promote recovery
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and adjust patient care plans
• Document care accurately in EPIC EMR and maintain clear communication
• Respond as an active member of Rapid Response/Code teams when needed
• Float to lower-acuity units when required to support patient care needs

Qualifications

• Active Ohio RN license
• Minimum 2 years of clinical acute care nursing experience
• BCLS (BLS) and IV certification required
• EPIC EMR experience preferred
• Strong communication, critical thinking, and multitasking abilities
• Comfort with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and emergency response
• Willingness to float within the OSU organization as needed
• Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine not required per facility guideline

Knowledge & Skills

• IV therapy and phlebotomy skills, including starting and maintaining IVs
• PICC line management and peripheral line care
• Cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
• Chest tube care (Emerson/PleurEvac) and oxygen administration
• Experience with EPIC EMR charting
• Respiratory skills and rapid response/code team participation
• Isolation precautions and PPE best practices
• Care for adults and geriatric patients in PCU/stepdown/MS/tele settings
• Ability to manage substance withdrawal and psychiatric/neurological presentations
