Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide and coordinate comprehensive nursing care for patients of all ages in the emergency/acute care setting
• Make independent clinical decisions during your shift and respond calmly and effectively in emergencies
• Document patient assessments, treatments, and physician orders accurately in the electronic medical record
• Administer medications and monitor patient responses, maintaining safe medication practices
• Supervise and delegate tasks to CNA/Tech staff, ensuring high standards of patient care
• Enforce infection control procedures and maintain a safe environment for patients and staff
• Participate in developing and implementing nursing policies, care plans, and procedure manuals
• Report changes in patient condition, complete incident/accident reports, and communicate with providers

Qualifications

• Current, full, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in Alaska (direct hire must have applied before start; agency staff must hold an active Alaska license)
• BLS, ACLS, and PALS (must be obtained within 6 months of hire if not current; maintained biannually)
• TNCC preferred (required for ED nurses)
• Clinical Competency assessment required within 3 months and every three years
• High Risk Competency required within 3 months and annually
• Ability to lift 50 lbs, function independently, and manage the mental and emotional demands of emergency nursing
• Strong communication, delegation, and supervision skills

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN), Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN), or Nursing Diploma from an accredited program
• High school diploma or equivalent required

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of nursing/medical practices, hospital and long-term care regulations, and standards of care
• Excellent patient assessment and clinical decision-making skills
• Proficiency with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) documentation
• Infection control and emergency nursing expertise
• Ability to work collaboratively across departments and maintain professional relationships with colleagues and families
• Comfort supervising and training other clinical staff
