Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide and coordinate comprehensive nursing care for patients of all ages in the emergency/acute care setting
- Make independent clinical decisions during your shift and respond calmly and effectively in emergencies
- Document patient assessments, treatments, and physician orders accurately in the electronic medical record
- Administer medications and monitor patient responses, maintaining safe medication practices
- Supervise and delegate tasks to CNA/Tech staff, ensuring high standards of patient care
- Enforce infection control procedures and maintain a safe environment for patients and staff
- Participate in developing and implementing nursing policies, care plans, and procedure manuals
- Report changes in patient condition, complete incident/accident reports, and communicate with providers
Qualifications
- Current, full, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in Alaska (direct hire must have applied before start; agency staff must hold an active Alaska license)
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS (must be obtained within 6 months of hire if not current; maintained biannually)
- TNCC preferred (required for ED nurses)
- Clinical Competency assessment required within 3 months and every three years
- High Risk Competency required within 3 months and annually
- Ability to lift 50 lbs, function independently, and manage the mental and emotional demands of emergency nursing
- Strong communication, delegation, and supervision skills
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN), Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN), or Nursing Diploma from an accredited program
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of nursing/medical practices, hospital and long-term care regulations, and standards of care
- Excellent patient assessment and clinical decision-making skills
- Proficiency with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) documentation
- Infection control and emergency nursing expertise
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments and maintain professional relationships with colleagues and families
- Comfort supervising and training other clinical staff
