Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for nuclear medicine studies with care and clear communication, ensuring comfort and safety throughout the procedure
- Perform high-quality diagnostic scans using established protocols and quality standards to support accurate clinical diagnoses
- Operate and monitor nuclear medicine equipment — gamma camera, dose calibrator, survey meters, well counter, and thyroid uptake probe — and report any issues promptly
- Administer radiopharmaceuticals following safety protocols and proper documentation practices
- Maintain a clean, organized work area and ensure required PPE and lead protective equipment are used appropriately
- Troubleshoot routine equipment issues and coordinate maintenance or service as needed to minimize downtime
- Participate in teaching and instructional activities to support colleagues and learners within the system
- Provide patient care for all ages, adapting approach to developmental and clinical needs with empathy and professionalism
Qualifications
- Current Hawaiʻi license as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist (required)
- Current BLS/HCP certification (required)
- One (1) year of Nuclear Medicine experience preferred; new graduates are welcome to apply
- Demonstrated knowledge of nuclear medicine physics, radiopharmaceutical administration, and radiation safety protocols
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with radiologists and physicians
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills for independent practice in a single-tech setting
Education
- Current Hawaiʻi Nuclear Medicine Technologist license (required)
- Current BLS/HCP certification (required)
Knowledge & Skills
- Radiopharmaceutical administration and radiation safety
- Gamma camera operation and dose calibrator use
- Survey meter, well counter, and thyroid uptake probe operation
- Patient preparation and pediatric through geriatric care
- Equipment troubleshooting and basic maintenance
- Clear communication with radiologists, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members
- Use of lead protective equipment and appropriate PPE
