Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, patient-centered oncology nursing care on a 24-bed unit
• Assess, monitor, and document patient status using Cerner to ensure safe, coordinated care
• Administer medications and IV therapies safely, following unit protocols and chemo policies when applicable
• Support post-operative and medical oncology patients with procedures like thoracentesis monitoring and post-op care
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to develop and update individualized care plans
• Educate patients and families about treatment plans, medications, and discharge needs in a clear, empathetic way
• Participate in unit-based teamwork and float to other med-surg areas when needed to maintain continuity of care

Qualifications

• Active RN license (required)
• BLS certification (required)
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience (as listed)
• Chemo Certification preferred but not required
• Experience with Cerner EMR strongly preferred
• Oncology or med-surg background with comfort in 1:4 to 1:5 patient ratios
• Team player attitude and willingness to learn in a collaborative environment

Knowledge & Skills

• Oncology nursing principles and patient safety practices
• Medication administration and IV therapy competence
• Familiarity with Cerner electronic medical record
• Postoperative care and common procedures such as thoracentesis
• Strong assessment, clinical judgment, and documentation skills
• Effective communication and teamwork in a fast-paced unit
