Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to Neuro Stepdown (SDU) patients with attention to neurologic assessment and stability
• Monitor and interpret patient vitals, neuro checks, and telemetry, escalating changes promptly
• Administer medications and treatments accurately and document care thoroughly
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members — physicians, therapists, and support staff — to create and follow individualized care plans
• Educate patients and families about diagnosis, treatment plans, and discharge instructions in a compassionate manner
• Participate in unit-based quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and safety

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana or ability to obtain licensure prior to start
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred or encouraged
• Experience or comfort working in Neuro Stepdown/SDU settings is highly desirable
• Strong clinical assessment, prioritization, and critical thinking skills
• Clear communication skills and ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Nursing Diploma required; BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Neurologic assessment and neuro-focused patient monitoring
• Telemetry interpretation and familiarity with stepdown care protocols
• IV medication administration and infusion pump competency
• Electronic medical record documentation proficiency
• Patient and family education techniques with sensitivity to emotional needs
• Team collaboration and handoff communication best practices
