Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate post-operative orthopedic and medical-surgical nursing care to patients following joint replacements and spine procedures
• Monitor patients closely, recognize changes in condition, and escalate concerns to the care team
• Accurately document assessments, interventions, and patient progress using EPIC
• Administer medications and set-rate infusions as ordered, following unit policies
• Collaborate with charge nurses, telemetry/monitor techs, and patient care techs to ensure safe staffing and patient flow
• Support team-based care: assist colleagues, float to MedSurg/rehab/PCU as needed, and embrace a team-first attitude
• Complete unit orientation and demonstrate required skills competency (open-book orientation exam with a 90% pass requirement)
• Respond to on-call callbacks within the required timeframe and adhere to facility policies (including fingernail/artificial nail policy)

Qualifications

• Active RN license in good standing (license to submit required)
• Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience (Med-Surg and/or Orthopedics preferred)
• BLS certification required
• Comfortable and experienced with EPIC charting
• Valid driver's license required at time of submittal to validate radius rule
• Experience with post-op orthopedic patients (total knees, hips, shoulders, spines) and pain/antibiotic management
• Ability to pass orientation competencies and a pass/fail skills exam (90% required)
• Flexibility to float to MedSurg, rehab, or PCU when required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong Med-Surg and Orthopedic nursing skills including post-op patient monitoring
• Proficiency with EPIC electronic charting
• Phlebotomy and familiarity with telemetry/tele monitoring workflows
• Good judgment around titratable/set-rate drips and post-op medication management
• Excellent teamwork, communication, and adaptability in a fast-paced acute care setting
• Ability to prioritize, delegate, and collaborate with ancillary staff and charge nurses
