Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert critical care nursing for medically complex and post-op cardiac patients
• Monitor and interpret hemodynamic parameters and respond to changes promptly
• Manage ventilated patients, including ventilator adjustments and weaning support
• Deliver post-CABG and transplant patient care with attention to detail and safety
• Collaborate with intensivists, surgeons, respiratory therapy and the interdisciplinary team
• Perform accurate bedside shift report and maintain whiteboard updates for continuity
• Document thoroughly in Meditech and ensure compliance with unit standards
• Support and mentor peers when floated to other ICUs or PCU, contributing to team excellence

Qualifications

• Active Texas RN license required (temporary licenses not accepted)
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience; CVICU and post-op cardiac experience strongly preferred
• BLS and ACLS certification required; CPR competency expected
• Comfortable with ventilator management, hemodynamic monitoring and post-CABG care
• Experience with ECMO, heart transplant or CABG is a strong plus
• Ability to float to other ICUs as needed and maintain professional bedside shift report etiquette

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong critical care assessment and prioritization skills
• Proficiency in ventilator management and respiratory therapies
• Familiarity with hemodynamic monitoring and cardiac post-op care
• Experience using Meditech or similar documentation systems
• Competence with ECMO patient support and high-acuity cardiac procedures
• Effective communication with multidisciplinary teams and families
• Adherence to hospital policies, infection control and professional dress code
