Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess nutritional status and create individualized nutrition care plans for patients
• Develop and implement therapeutic meal plans and diet orders in collaboration with the care team
• Provide nutrition counseling and education to patients and staff to support recovery and wellness
• Monitor and document patient progress, adjusting plans as clinical needs evolve
• Ensure menus and meal services meet therapeutic and regulatory requirements
• Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and coordinate care with nursing and mental health staff
• Assist with nutrition-related training for facility staff and supervise foodservice operations as needed
• Maintain accurate clinical records and adhere to facility policies and confidentiality standards

Qualifications

• Current Registered Dietitian (RD) credential (required)
• Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field (required)
• Clinical dietetics experience; experience in psychiatric or correctional settings is a strong plus
• Ability to pass required background checks and meet facility credentialing requirements
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with nursing and mental health teams

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field
• Completion of accredited dietetics program and supervised practice leading to RD credential

Knowledge & Skills

• Clinical nutrition assessment and therapeutic diet planning
• Knowledge of diet modifications for psychiatric and medical conditions
• Familiarity with menu planning and foodservice operations in institutional settings
• Proficiency documenting in electronic medical records and maintaining accurate clinical notes
• Excellent interpersonal skills for patient education and interdisciplinary collaboration
• Comfort working in a correctional healthcare environment and following security protocols
