Roles & Responsibilities

• Assist dentists chairside during a broad range of procedures with confidence and precision
• Prepare operatories and ensure instruments and materials are sterilized and ready
• Take and process dental radiographs following state rules and safety practices
• Maintain accurate patient charts and document treatments in the dental record
• Manage infection control protocols and maintain a safe clinical environment
• Educate patients on oral hygiene and post-procedure care in a clear, compassionate way
• Support clinic operations at a correctional facility while following security and safety procedures

Qualifications

• Current California Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) license (required)
• BLS/CPR certification (preferred or obtain upon hire)
• Ability to pass required background check and any facility security clearances
• Comfort working in a correctional healthcare setting and following institutional policies
• Strong communication skills and ability to work well in a team
• Willingness to complete a two-week orientation at the start of assignment

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Completion of an accredited dental assisting program preferred
• Active California RDA registration

Knowledge & Skills

• Chairside assisting techniques and familiarity with common dental procedures
• Dental radiography knowledge and safe x-ray practices
• Infection control, sterilization, and instrument processing
• Dental charting and basic electronic health record navigation
• Safe handling of dental materials and an understanding of dental anatomy
• Professional demeanor, patient education, and de-escalation skills when needed
