Shift Type: Saturday-Sunday, 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM (day); Training Monday-Friday, 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM for 1-2 weeks (day)

Candidate Pay Rate: $49 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and develop individualized treatment plans
• Provide psychopharmacologic management and medication adjustments with safety and clarity
• Collaborate with nursing and behavioral health staff to coordinate care and ensure continuity
• Lead and deliver training sessions for staff during the 1-2 week M-F training period
• Document patient encounters thoroughly and timely in the medical record
• Assess and manage psychiatric emergencies and participate in clinical problem-solving
• Contribute to a culture of patient-centered care and quality improvement initiatives

Qualifications

• Medical degree (MD or DO) with completion of an accredited psychiatry residency
• Board certified or board eligible in Psychiatry preferred
• Active California medical license or ability to obtain California licensure in a timely manner
• DEA registration (or ability to obtain) for controlled substance prescribing
• Experience in mental health or correctional psychiatry preferred; strong candidates with general psychiatry experience encouraged to apply
• Comfort and ability to train staff (1-2 week M-F training expectation) and work independently on weekend coverage

Education

• MD or DO from an accredited medical school; psychiatry residency completion required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong clinical knowledge of psychopharmacology and psychiatric diagnostic assessment
• Skilled in crisis intervention and acute psychiatric management
• Ability to communicate clearly with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams
• Familiarity with correctional or institutional mental health workflows preferred
• Good documentation practices and familiarity with electronic medical records
• Teaching and coaching skills to deliver effective staff training
