Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide skilled occupational therapy interventions to help patients regain independence and function
• Perform thorough patient assessments and develop individualized treatment plans
• Deliver hands-on therapy and adaptive equipment training to improve daily living skills
• Collaborate closely with nurses, therapists, and the interdisciplinary team to coordinate care
• Document patient progress accurately and timely in the electronic medical record
• Educate patients and families on home programs, safety, and adaptive strategies
• Participate in discharge planning to ensure safe transitions and continuity of care
• Maintain therapy equipment and uphold a safe, clean treatment environment

Qualifications

• Current COTA certification required
• Active Virginia licensure/registration for Occupational Therapy Assistants or ability to obtain state authorization
• Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification required or willingness to obtain
• Comfortable working with adult rehab and medically complex patients
• Strong documentation, communication, and teamwork skills
• Professional, reliable, and patient-centered approach

Education

• Completion of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) program and COTA certification

Knowledge & Skills

• Patient assessment and treatment planning in rehabilitation settings
• Therapeutic activity and adaptive equipment training
• Skilled manual interventions and modality knowledge
• Electronic medical record charting and documentation best practices
• Effective communication with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams
• Time management and caseload prioritization
• Infection control and safety protocols
