Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform initial triage and full assessments for urgent care patients of all ages to prioritize needs and expedite care.
- Administer medications (oral, topical, IM, SQ, intradermal, IV push and infusion) and initiate/maintain IV therapy safely.
- Provide telephone triage and patient education, documenting advice and follow-up plans clearly.
- Document assessments, interventions, and patient education accurately in the medical record.
- Coordinate referrals and track outcomes, serving as a primary link between providers and external facilities.
- Maintain clinic supplies, equipment safety, and infection control standards to ensure a clean, safe environment.
- Participate in department improvement efforts and professional development to strengthen clinical care.
- Respond to emergency situations and perform life saving procedures as needed.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and eligible to take the NCLEX.
- Current full, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in Alaska or another U.S. state required. Direct hire must have applied for an Alaska license before the start date; agency staff must hold an active Alaska license.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred.
- Clinical Competency assessment required within 3 months of hire and every three years.
- High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and annually.
- Minimum 2 years of general nursing experience with at least 1 year in ambulatory or urgent care settings.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, lift/move up to 50 lbs, and perform physically demanding tasks as needed.
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (eligible to take NCLEX)
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Knowledge & Skills
- Urgent care nursing, triage, and patient assessment
- IV therapy initiation, management, and medication administration
- Thorough documentation and competent charting skills
- Infection control and clinic safety protocols
- Telephone triage and vaccine coordination
- EMR system familiarity and accurate data entry
- Strong communication, multitasking, and critical thinking
