Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform and report accurate clinical laboratory testing across generalist and microbiology disciplines
• Maintain strict quality control and document QA processes to ensure reliable results
• Operate, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and analyzers
• Process specimens, prepare cultures, and interpret microbiology findings with care and precision
• Collaborate with clinicians and lab staff to prioritize testing and communicate critical results promptly
• Adhere to all state regulations, safety protocols, and laboratory policies to protect patients and staff
• Contribute to continuous improvement efforts—suggest workflow enhancements and help implement best practices

Qualifications

• Valid California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license (required)
• ASCP or HEW certification (required)
• Experience as a generalist or in microbiology testing (contract role welcomes flexibility)
• Comfort working a 4x10 day schedule with rotating weekends
• Strong attention to detail, excellent documentation skills, and a team-oriented mindset

Knowledge & Skills

• Microbiology techniques: culture workup, identification, susceptibility testing
• Specimen processing and handling best practices
• Quality control, validation, and lab safety procedures
• Familiarity with laboratory instruments and routine troubleshooting
• Electronic Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) familiarity and accurate result entry
• Clear communication with clinical teams and ability to escalate critical results
