Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate pre-operative nursing care to pediatric patients, making them feel safe and calm
• Perform focused assessments and vital signs, preparing each child for a smooth surgical experience
• Administer medications and IV therapy as ordered and monitor patient responses closely
• Educate families and caregivers on procedure preparation and immediate post-op expectations
• Collaborate with surgical teams, anesthesia, and support staff to ensure timely, efficient patient flow
• Document care accurately and perform thorough handoffs to the intraoperative and postoperative teams
• Participate in orientation and ongoing training to maintain best practices in pediatric pre-op care

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license — Missouri license or compact eligibility preferred
• Experience or strong interest in pediatrics and pre-operative nursing
• Current BLS required; PALS preferred or willing to obtain
• Ability to pass background check, drug screen, and required immunizations
• Excellent communication skills and a family-centered care approach

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) — per employer preference

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric assessment and age-appropriate communication
• Pre-operative preparation and perioperative safety processes
• IV therapy, medication administration, and monitoring
• Clear, concise documentation and effective handoff communication
• Ability to work collaboratively within a surgical team
