Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform pre-operative assessments for pediatric patients, ensuring safety and readiness for procedures
• Obtain and document vital signs, medical histories, and medication reconciliation with accuracy
• Provide clear, compassionate education to children and their families about pre-op processes and expectations
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and perioperative staff to coordinate timely patient flow
• Prepare the patient and necessary documentation for transfer to the operating room
• Advocate for pediatric patients' needs and comfort, communicating concerns to the care team
• Maintain meticulous electronic and paper charting to support continuity of care

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license — ability to practice in Missouri (or compact license where applicable)
• Experience or demonstrated comfort working with pediatric patients and in a pre-op/perioperative setting preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; PALS and perioperative-specific certifications are a plus
• Strong communication skills with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams
• Current CPR certification and adherence to institutional policies and infection-control standards

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
• Completion of an accredited nursing program and active RN licensure

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric assessment and age-appropriate communication skills
• Pre-operative procedures, medication reconciliation, and perioperative safety checks
• Ability to document accurately in electronic health records and follow facility workflows
• Familiarity with sterile technique principles and OR handoffs
• Calm, organized approach to fast-paced pre-op environments and the ability to prioritize tasks
