Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess pediatric patients coming out of anesthesia and provide focused post-anesthesia care
• Monitor vital signs and level of consciousness, intervening promptly as needed
• Administer medications and pain management per orders, with careful pediatric dosing
• Collaborate with anesthesia, surgeons, and pediatric teams to ensure smooth handoffs
• Document patient status, interventions, and progress clearly in the medical record
• Provide family-centered education and emotional support to parents and caregivers
• Ensure safe discharge criteria are met before transferring patients from PACU

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Missouri or compact licensure as applicable) — confirm specifics with recruiter
• Experience or strong interest in PACU and pediatric nursing (Peds) environments
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) strongly preferred
• Strong pediatric assessment skills and comfort with airway/respiratory management
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced post-anesthesia setting

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of post-anesthesia recovery protocols and PACU workflows
• Pediatric assessment and age-appropriate pain management techniques
• Familiarity with medication administration and IV management in children
• Ability to triage and prioritize care in a busy recovery area
• Clear communication skills for effective handoffs and family updates
• Comfort using electronic medical records for documentation
