Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide thorough post-anesthesia assessments and continuous monitoring of patients in PACU
• Manage airway, pain control, and vital sign stabilization during recovery
• Administer medications and IV therapy safely and per established protocols
• Collaborate closely with anesthesiology, surgery, and perioperative teams for smooth handoffs
• Document patient status, interventions, and discharge readiness accurately in the EHR
• Educate patients and families on post-op care, discharge instructions, and safety
• Prioritize patient safety, infection control, and adherence to PACU policies
• Respond calmly and effectively to changes in patient condition and escalate when needed

Qualifications

• Active RN license in Louisiana (required)
• Experience in PACU or post-anesthesia care preferred (prior perioperative exposure is a plus)
• Current BLS required; ACLS preferred or willing to obtain
• Comfortable administering IV medications and monitoring recovery from anesthesia
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or Diploma)
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Post-anesthesia patient assessment and recovery monitoring
• Airway management and basic life support
• Pain management principles and medication administration
• Familiarity with telemetry/monitoring equipment and vital sign trends
• Perioperative workflows, handoffs, and PACU protocols
• Accurate electronic health record documentation
• Critical thinking and rapid clinical decision-making
• Compassionate patient and family education skills
