Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality post-operative and acute Med/Surg nursing care for surgical patients
• Administer and manage IV therapies, including antibiotics, analgesics, antiemetics, and anticoagulants
• Perform IV insertion and manage PICC/central lines and other vascular access devices
• Manage a variable patient workload (able to handle up to 8 patients when needed) while maintaining safe, patient-centered care
• Participate in bedside shift report and collaborate in care team rounds to support discharge planning
• Float between Med/Surg and the Orthopedics sister unit as staffing needs require
• Operate and troubleshoot common unit equipment such as Alaris IV pumps, CADD PCA, Bard mini-infusers, Pyxis, lifts, and Wound VAC systems
• Engage with patients and families to provide compassionate education and post-op instructions

Qualifications

• Previous travel nurse experience required
• Most recent three assignments must be acute Med/Surg in medium to large organizations (no long-term care assignments)
• Demonstrated ability to manage high patient loads and prioritize care during busy night shifts
• Willingness to float between Med/Surg and Orthopedics
• Comfortable with surgical post-operative care and a variety of common surgical diagnoses and procedures

Knowledge & Skills

• Med/Surg and acute care nursing principles with surgical postoperative focus
• IV insertion, PICC/central line management, and vascular access care
• Medication administration experience including IV antibiotics, pain control meds, antiemetics, and anticoagulants
• Familiarity with Alaris IV pumps, CADD PCA, Bard mini-infusers, Pyxis medication systems, ceiling/EVA lifts, and Wound VAC (Wound Manager)
• Experience with bedside shift report, care team rounding, and discharge planning processes
• Ability to care for common surgical cases such as robotic procedures, resections, mastectomy, thyroidectomy, bariatric and vascular surgeries
