Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform accurate venipuncture and specimen collection with compassion and professionalism
• Label, process, and transport specimens according to lab protocols and chain-of-custody rules
• Assist clinical laboratory staff with routine testing support and specimen preparation
• Maintain a safe, clean work area and strictly follow infection control procedures
• Communicate clearly and kindly with patients to ensure comfort and cooperation during collections
• Document collections and patient interactions accurately in the system and lab logs
• Support weekend and peak-coverage needs as part of a collaborative inpatient team

Qualifications

• Current CA Phlebotomist (CPT I) License — required
• Experience as a phlebotomist or clinical lab assistant in acute care/inpatient settings preferred
• Comfortable working rotating AM and PM 8-hour shifts and every other weekend
• Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and patient-focused bedside manner
• Ability to follow lab safety, infection control, and specimen handling protocols

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited phlebotomy program preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in venipuncture and various specimen collection techniques
• Knowledge of specimen labeling, handling, and transport requirements
• Familiarity with infection prevention and patient safety practices
• Good communication skills for interacting with patients and clinical teams
• Basic documentation skills for accurate recordkeeping and logs
