Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert critical care nursing for adults in a cardiac/medical ICU setting
• Manage ventilated patients, including ventilator adjustments and weaning protocols
• Perform advanced hemodynamic monitoring and manage vasoactive drips
• Start and maintain IVs, manage arterial/central/PICC lines and administer blood products safely
• Document patient care accurately and efficiently in EPIC
• Interpret ABGs and 12-lead ECGs and respond to dysrhythmias and cardiac emergencies
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team (RT, PT, Pharmacy, Rapid Response) to optimize patient outcomes
• Participate in unit protocols such as hypothermia protocol and other special procedures

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of ICU nursing experience required
• EPIC experience required — you will document and chart in EPIC frequently
• Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (AHA certifications only)
• Competency with ventilator management, telemetry, and IV starts
• Willingness to float within the OSU organization as needed
• Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine not required per facility guideline

Knowledge & Skills

• ICU nursing and cardiac critical care
• Ventilator management and care of ventilated patients
• CRRT/CVVHD and renal support therapies
• Hemodynamic monitoring, IABP and Impella familiarity
• Titration of vasoactive and cardiac drips
• Arterial line, central line and PICC line management
• Interpretation of ABGs and 12-lead ECGs; dysrhythmia recognition
• Blood product administration and IV therapy
• BiPAP/CPAP and High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) management
• Infection prevention, isolation precautions and PPE best practices
• Phlebotomy and rapid response/ emergency medication administration
• Experience with special equipment such as EKOS and advanced hemodynamic monitoring
