Roles & Responsibilities

• Conduct Compensation & Pension (C&P) exams and Separation Health Assessments with compassion and clarity
• Perform thorough medical interviews and focused physical assessments (range of motion and muscle strength testing)
• Document clear, timely medical examination reports and any required addendums
• Provide non-treatment, objective medical opinions based on exam findings
• Complete administrative follow-up and required reporting in accordance with VES processes
• Participate in required training and credentialing to maintain exam quality and compliance
• Coordinate with VES scheduling and credentialing teams to ensure seamless patient care experiences

Qualifications

• Licensed Nurse Practitioner (NP) in good standing — ability to practice in the applicable state
• Clinical background in family medicine, internal medicine, orthopedic surgery, or general medicine
• Experience or willingness to learn Compensation & Pension (C&P) exam processes and non-treatment evaluations
• Comfort performing range of motion and muscle strength testing and documenting objective findings
• Reliable access to either a VES facility within 50 miles or your own office within 50 miles of the listed city (per role option)
• Strong professional communication and timely documentation skills
• Ability to complete required onboarding and training prior to performing exams

Education

• Advanced practice degree appropriate for an NP (e.g., MSN or DNP) and national NP certification

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in patient interviews and focused physical assessments
• Expertise in medical report writing and producing clear medical opinions
• Familiarity with reading diagnostics and preparing addendums when needed
• Comfort with non-prescribing, non-treatment evaluations and objective testing
• Administrative follow-up and timely completion of documentation
• Attention to detail and ability to produce concise, defensible exam reports
