Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality primary care to the patient population at North Kern State Prison
• Diagnose, treat and manage acute and chronic medical conditions with evidence-based care
• Perform thorough patient assessments and develop individualized treatment plans
• Document clinical care accurately and timely in the electronic medical record
• Collaborate with nursing and multidisciplinary correctional health staff for coordinated care
• Participate in coverage rotations and handoffs to ensure continuity of care

Qualifications

• Active CA medical license or ability to obtain prior to start
• MD or DO degree (or equivalent) completed from an accredited program
• Board certified or board eligible in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine preferred
• Current DEA registration or ability to obtain prior to start
• Current BLS (basic life support); ACLS preferred
• Experience in primary care; correctional health experience is a strong plus
• Ability to pass background checks and required occupational health screenings

Education

• MD or DO degree (or equivalent)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong primary care clinical assessment and diagnostic skills
• Chronic disease management (diabetes, hypertension, COPD, etc.)
• Comfortable prescribing and managing medications in a formulary-driven setting
• Proficiency with electronic medical records and clinical documentation
• Clear communication skills and teamwork within a multidisciplinary setting
• Familiarity with correctional health protocols and security-conscious care delivery
