Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain sterile field and instruments using rigorous aseptic technique
• Set up case carts and specialty instrumentation for a wide range of procedures, including trauma and robotics
• Process, sterilize, and care for scopes and fiber optic equipment to ensure patient safety
• Anticipate surgeon needs during cases and provide timely instrument delivery and handling
• Participate in Universal Protocol time-outs and adhere to isolation and PPE guidelines
• Support perioperative team during complex procedures across specialties (trauma, neuro, ortho, gyn, transplant, plastics)
• Assist with mobilizing and prepping patients to maintain safe 1:1 patient care when required
• Document perioperative care per facility charting preferences (Epic preferred)

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of surgical technologist experience; at least 2 years in Level II or Level I trauma preferred
• Teaching hospital experience required and travel experience required
• Experience with 1:1 patient ratio and on-call responsibilities
• Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions allowed); COVID-19 vaccine not required per facility guideline
• Previous charge or leadership experience preferred
• Charting experience preferred; Epic experience a plus
• BLS certification preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Aseptic technique and Universal Protocol (time-out) procedures
• Instrument processing, sterilization, disinfection, and specimen handling
• Care and high-level disinfection of scopes and fiber optic equipment
• Familiarity with electrosurgical units, cell saver, crash cart, and specialty drills
• Endoscopic procedure support (EGD, colonoscopy, bronchoscopy) and laparoscopic assistance
• Experience across specialties: trauma, ortho, neuro, gyn, plastics, urology, transplant, thoracic
• Laser and radiation safety, sharps safety, and wound care/dressing changes
