Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-quality nursing care to step-down (SDU) patients, monitoring changes and escalating concerns promptly
• Perform focused assessments, manage complex care plans, and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes
• Administer medications and treatments accurately, following facility protocols and safety standards
• Utilize telemetry and monitoring equipment to track patient status and interpret clinical data
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses clearly and timely in the medical record
• Educate patients and families about conditions, treatments, and discharge plans with empathy and clarity
• Participate in unit-based quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and workflow

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana or eligibility to obtain one
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required; ACLS preferred or obtainable
• Experience caring for step-down or progressive care patients is highly desirable
• Strong clinical assessment skills, critical thinking, and the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills; patient-focused attitude

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid understanding of step-down unit (SDU) patient needs and progressive care principles
• Telemetry monitoring and interpretation
• Medication administration and IV therapy skills
• Proficient documentation practices and familiarity with electronic medical records
• Ability to triage, recognize deterioration, and initiate timely interventions
• Collaborative bedside manner and effective interdisciplinary communication
