Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, patient-centered nursing care in the Step-Down Unit, monitoring and responding to changes in condition
• Perform thorough assessments and implement individualized care plans for patients transitioning between ICU and floor-level care
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately, following facility protocols
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and the multidisciplinary team to coordinate timely care
• Use telemetry and monitoring data to identify trends and escalate concerns promptly
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments, and discharge planning to support recovery

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Louisiana preferred/required)
• Clinical experience in a Step-Down Unit (SDU) or similar acute care telemetry setting
• Comfort and experience working 12.5-hour clinical shifts
• Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

Knowledge & Skills

• Cardiac/telemetry monitoring and interpretation relevant to SDU care
• Acute care assessment and early recognition of patient deterioration
• Medication administration and IV therapy competency
• Care coordination and effective interdisciplinary communication
• Prioritization, time management, and documentation best practices
• Patient and family education tailored to recovery and discharge needs
