Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate pre-operative nursing care to pediatric patients and their families
• Perform focused assessments and prepare children for anesthesia and procedures
• Communicate clearly with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and perioperative staff to ensure safe handoffs
• Educate families about pre-op instructions and what to expect in a friendly, reassuring way
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient education accurately in the medical record
• Assist with maintaining a safe, child-friendly pre-op environment and infection control standards

Qualifications

• Current RN license in Massachusetts (or compact state privileges where applicable)
• Experience or interest in pediatric nursing and pre-op care
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
• Comfortable working with children and communicating with families of all ages
• Ability to pass background check and meet facility health requirements (immunizations, TB screening)

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) — BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric assessment and age-appropriate communication
• Pre-operative preparation and safety protocols
• Familiarity with EHR documentation and perioperative workflows
• IV starts and basic pediatric medication administration
• Strong teamwork, organization, and family-centered care approach
