Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide patient-centered postpartum nursing care in collaboration with families and the interdisciplinary team
- Perform thorough assessments, develop individualized care plans, implement interventions, and evaluate outcomes
- Document care accurately and timely in EPIC to ensure continuity and quality
- Educate new parents on postpartum care, newborn care, and safety to empower confident caregiving
- Maintain competency by completing required specialty checklists and competency exams
- Adhere to ANA standards and facility policies to deliver safe, evidence-based care
- Participate in routine screening and monitoring per unit protocols and escalate concerns appropriately
- Support unit initiatives to improve patient experience and clinical outcomes
Qualifications
- Active Rhode Island Registered Nurse (RN) licensure required
- Postpartum nursing experience required; you know your maternal-newborn care
- EPIC proficiency required for accurate charting and order management
- Current BLS and NRP certifications required
- COVID-19 vaccination required per facility policy
- Ability to pass CNE skills checklist and specialty competency exams
- Proof of required immunizations and TB screening (MMR, Hep B, Varicella, Tdap, influenza, 2-step PPD or IGRA)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong postpartum clinical skills including maternal and newborn assessment
- Care planning and care coordination with families
- Patient and family education techniques
- Familiarity with ANA standards of nursing practice
- Proficiency using EPIC electronic medical record
- Effective communication and English proficiency for clear patient interactions
- Ability to perform basic EKG and pharmacology-related tasks as required by unit competency
