Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualized nursing care plans for Med/Surg patients
• Safely administer medications and intravenous therapy per orders and policies
• Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms (ECG), initiate appropriate interventions as ordered
• Provide thorough, timely documentation and handoffs to ensure continuity of care
• Perform patient and family teaching to support discharge planning and recovery
• Prioritize and coordinate patient care, delegating appropriately and seeking support when needed
• Identify and report patient safety risks and participate in error reduction processes
• Set up, maintain and troubleshoot surgical patient equipment such as traction devices, feeding pumps, chest tubes and drains

Qualifications

• Current MA Registered Nurse (RN) license required
• ACLS upon hire OR current BLS with AHA ACLS obtained within 60 days of hire
• PALS preferred
• Minimum: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
• 1 year Med/Surg experience preferred; telemetry and pediatrics experience are a plus
• Demonstrated professional behaviors: tact, empathy, diplomacy and teamwork

Education

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (required)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong Med/Surg nursing skills including patient assessment and pain management
• Medication administration and IV therapy competency
• Cardiac monitoring and ECG interpretation
• Accurate, timely documentation and effective report-giving
• Discharge planning and patient/family teaching skills
• Experience with telemetry, feeding pumps, chest tubes/drains and surgical patient care
• Ability to function as a preceptor and support colleague learning
