Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, expert nursing care for adult and geriatric ortho trauma and progressive care patients
• Manage complex respiratory needs including BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC and non-invasive airway care
• Perform and interpret arterial blood gases to guide patient respiratory management
• Care for patients with chest tubes, tracheostomies, feeding tubes, and a variety of lines including central and PICC
• Administer and monitor IV therapies, blood products, insulin drips and cardiac drips according to protocols
• Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms, interpret dysrhythmias and respond as part of Rapid Response / Code teams
• Deliver wound care including Wound Vac management and assist with skin graft postoperative needs
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary partners like PT, respiratory services, pharmacy and social work to optimize patient outcomes
• Float to other OSU units as needed while maintaining high standards of care and communication

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
• Minimum 2 years clinical nursing experience, ideally in PCU/stepdown, ortho trauma or progressive care
• Epic charting experience required
• BLS required; ACLS preferred
• Previous charge experience preferred and teaching hospital / Trauma Level I experience preferred
• Comfort with telemetry and 1:4 patient ratios on days and nights
• Ability to work nights and required weekend coverage, and to float within the OSU organization
• Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine not required per facility guideline

Education

• Active RN license required
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing required; BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient with Epic electronic charting
• Skilled in BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC and oxygen delivery devices
• Chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac) and tracheostomy care
• ABG interpretation and ventilatory assessment
• IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, PICC management
• Experience with insulin drip protocols and titration, heparin protocols, and PCA management
• Cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and emergency response skills
• Wound care including Wound Vac, orthopedic trauma care and postoperative management
