Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert, high-quality nursing care for high-risk and high-volume labor and delivery patients
• Function as the Baby Nurse at deliveries and provide newborn care until transfer to postpartum, including eye prophylaxis and Vitamin K administration
• Circulate for C-sections in the OR, maintaining sterile technique and patient safety
• Perform continuous electronic fetal monitoring and intervene on abnormal fetal heart patterns
• Administer and manage medications such as magnesium sulfate, insulin drips, and heparin safely and per protocol
• Support postpartum care including hemorrhage management, couplet care, and lactation assistance
• Document care accurately and efficiently in EPIC and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams

Qualifications

• Active RN license (compact license accepted) with proof via NURSYS required
• Minimum 3 years experience in high-acuity, high-pace Labor & Delivery; 3-5 years required (5 years high-risk strongly preferred)
• Previous travel assignment experience required (unit does not accept first-time travelers)
• Current supervisory references required
• Required certifications: BLS and NRP
• EPIC charting experience required
• Hard-skill requirements: ability to circulate for C-section and serve as Baby Nurse (newborn assessment, eye prophylaxis, Vitamin K injection)
• Preferred certifications: ACLS, AWHONN Advanced, AWHONN Intermediate

Education

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license — compact license accepted (proof via NURSYS required)

Knowledge & Skills

• Electronic fetal monitoring and recognition/treatment of abnormal fetal heart patterns
• Neonatal resuscitation and newborn thermoregulation
• Management of high-risk obstetrical conditions and emergency responses (hemorrhage, shock)
• Medication administration and infusion management (magnesium sulfate, insulin drips, heparin, oxytocin)
• C-section circulation and OR workflow
• IV therapy and phlebotomy, starting and maintaining IVs
• APGAR scoring, cord sample collection, ID/security banding
• Strong charting skills in EPIC and familiarity with AWHONN guidelines
