Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert critical care for post-operative cardiac, thoracic and complex vascular patients in an 18-bed CVICU
• Titrate and manage vasopressors, sedatives, analgesics and other drips per protocol
• Continuously monitor and interpret telemetry/ECG strips and act promptly on changes
• Troubleshoot and support mechanical ventilation and respiratory equipment in collaboration with RT
• Manage patients on advanced mechanical circulatory and renal support (ECMO, Impella, IABP, CRRT) when appropriate
• Collaborate with intensivists, hospitalists and interdisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated, high-quality care
• Document care accurately and efficiently in EPIC
• Contribute to a safe unit culture by following fingernail/artificial nail policy, completing required orientation tasks and passing the orientation skills exam

Qualifications

• Current RN license (eligible to submit for state of assignment)
• BLS and ACLS required; NIHSS listed as required certification
• Minimum 1 year of experience caring for CVICU/complex cardiac surgery patients (posting also lists 2 years of experience in job details)
• Demonstrated ability to titrate drips and manage hemodynamically unstable patients
• Comfortable reading and interpreting telemetry/ECG without monitor tech support
• Experience with mechanical ventilation troubleshooting
• Valid driver’s license required at submittal
• Successful completion of orientation skills exam (90% pass required) is mandatory

Education

• Active RN license; BSN not required (posting indicates BSN required: No)

Knowledge & Skills

• Advanced critical care nursing for open heart and complex vascular postoperative patients
• Telemetry and ECG interpretation
• Vasopressor and sedation titration
• Mechanical ventilation troubleshooting and collaboration with RT
• Familiarity with ECMO, CRRT, Impella and IABP management
• Proficiency with EPIC electronic charting
• Strong assessment, clinical decision-making and team communication skills
