Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for nuclear medicine studies and perform high-quality diagnostic scans following established protocols
- Administer radiopharmaceuticals safely and document doses accurately
- Operate and troubleshoot equipment including gamma cameras, dose calibrators, survey meters, well counters, and thyroid uptake probes
- Monitor and maintain equipment condition and cleanliness; report maintenance needs promptly
- Ensure radiation safety and adhere to safety protocols and required PPE use
- Collaborate and communicate findings and patient information with radiologists and physicians
- Participate in teaching and instructional activities to support staff and learners
- Provide compassionate care for patients of all ages, adapting approach to developmental and clinical needs
Qualifications
- Current Hawai'i license as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist (required)
- Current BLS/HCP certification (required)
- Radiopharmaceutical administration experience and knowledge of nuclear medicine physics
- Familiarity with radiation safety practices and use of survey meters and leaded protective equipment
- Strong communication and critical thinking skills; able to work independently in a single-tech rural setting
- One (1) year of Nuclear Medicine experience preferred; position suitable for new graduates and experienced technologists
Education
- Current Hawai'i Nuclear Medicine Technologist licensure
- BLS/HCP certification
- Formal training or certification in Nuclear Medicine Technology (as required for state licensure)
Knowledge & Skills
- Nuclear Medicine procedures and diagnostic imaging
- Radiation safety and monitoring
- Gamma camera operation and imaging protocols
- Dose calibrator and well counter use
- Thyroid uptake probe operation
- Patient preparation and age-appropriate care
- Equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
- Clear communication with physicians and radiologists
