Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, direct patient care to individuals in a correctional behavioral health setting.
• Implement and follow individualized treatment plans under clinical direction to support recovery and stabilization.
• Monitor and document patient status, behaviors and responses to interventions accurately and promptly.
• Use de-escalation and crisis-intervention techniques to maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.
• Collaborate with nurses, clinicians and security staff to coordinate care and communicate clinical concerns.
• Participate in orientation, continuous learning and unit meetings to improve patient outcomes and team performance.

Qualifications

• Active Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) licensure in California (required)
• Experience working with behavioral health or psychiatric populations preferred (registry or facility experience a plus)
• Current BLS/CPR certification preferred or willingness to obtain during orientation
• Ability to pass required background checks and facility onboarding for correctional settings
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Completion of an approved Psychiatric Technician training program or equivalent as required for California LPT licensure

Knowledge & Skills

• Behavioral health observation and documentation best practices
• Crisis intervention and de-escalation skills
• Medication administration awareness and monitoring (as directed by nursing staff)
• Patient safety protocols and infection control
• Clear, professional communication with patients, families and clinical teams
• Ability to follow structured routines and facility policies in a correctional environment
