Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based patient care using the nursing process: assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate
• Direct and coordinate nursing care for patients across the lifespan, including post-surgical and behavioral health populations
• Perform initial patient assessments and conduct re-assessments every 24 hours to ensure care plans are current and effective
• Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary healthcare professionals to deliver safe, cost-effective care and achieve the best outcomes
• Serve as a clinical resource when situations require expertise and leadership
• Apply age-specific considerations and culturally competent care in all patient interactions
• Maintain clear, timely clinical documentation and contribute to quality improvement efforts

Qualifications

• Completion of a nursing education program from an NLN‑approved institution
• Current, active RN license in the State of Alaska (Alaska RN License required)
• Minimum preferred: 2 years of Med/Surg nursing experience
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications
• International nurses are welcome (YKHC accepts NCLEX, TOEFL and Visa Screen; YKHC designated H1‑C critical shortage area)

Education

• Completed nursing program from an NLN-approved institution (Associate Degree, Diploma, or equivalent per program completion)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong patient assessment and nursing diagnosis skills
• Care planning, implementation and thorough clinical documentation
• Experience with post-surgical care and behavioral health patient needs
• Care coordination and effective interdisciplinary collaboration
• Ability to re-assess patients every 24 hours and adjust care accordingly
• Cultural competence and comfort working with diverse populations and age groups
