Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide advanced clinical care for cardiothoracic surgery patients with compassionate, patient-first focus
• Assist in cardiac surgeries including performing endoscopic vein harvesting and first assisting when needed
• Manage ICU and cardiovascular surgical patient care, including rounding, evaluation, and transitions of care for CVICU, floor, and clinic patients
• Participate in two full-day clinics weekly and see additional patients as required to ensure continuity of care
• Rotate through operating room coverage Monday through Friday to support surgical teams
• Collaborate closely with surgeons, physicians, intensivists, and the multidisciplinary care team to deliver coordinated care
• Order, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and diagnostic tests to guide clinical decision-making
• Develop and implement patient-centered plans of care and follow-up based on outcomes
• Order medications and write prescriptions in compliance with regulatory policies and organizational standards
• Perform appropriate bedside procedures and provide high-quality, timely documentation of all care delivered
• Demonstrate expert clinical judgment while functioning independently under physician supervision
• Maintain required continuing medical education and adapt to a dynamic, high-stress clinical environment

Qualifications

• Active Nurse Practitioner (NP) credential with demonstrated experience in cardiothoracic or cardiovascular surgery
• Experience managing ICU patients and working in CVICU or comparable critical care settings
• Hands-on experience with endoscopic vein harvesting and first assist duties in cardiac surgery
• Comfortable providing operating room coverage and clinic patient care
• Ability to order, interpret, and act on laboratory and diagnostic tests; strong clinical documentation skills
• Prescriptive authority and experience ordering/writing medications in accordance with regulations
• Strong multidisciplinary collaboration, clinical judgment, and adaptability in high-stress settings
• UCHealth does not support visa candidates for this position; US work authorization required
