Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate post-operative nursing care for patients staying 1–3 nights after surgery
• Monitor cardiac rhythms and telemetry, promptly recognizing and escalating changes
• Care for cath lab patients and manage ER overflow admissions with calm efficiency
• Perform thorough assessments, develop nursing care plans, and update clinical documentation
• Collaborate with surgeons, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure continuity of care
• Maintain specialty competencies and complete required skills checklists and testing
• Participate in unit-based initiatives to improve patient outcomes and workflow

Qualifications

• Active RN license (Iowa) — must be in good standing
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• TNCC and NIHSS certifications required
• Comfortable and experienced with telemetry and medical-surgical nursing
• Experience caring for post-procedural and cath lab patients, and able to assist with ER overflow
• Able to complete facility-required health screenings and competency testing

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring and cardiac rhythm interpretation
• Post-operative nursing care and wound/pressure management
• Cath lab patient care and handoffs from procedural areas
• Strong assessment, prioritization, and critical thinking skills
• Accurate electronic medical record documentation and medication administration
• Ability to function in a fast-paced surgical/medical-surgical environment
