Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor post-anesthesia patients continuously, recognizing changes in status and acting decisively
• Administer medications and manage pain relief per orders while prioritizing patient safety
• Collaborate closely with anesthesia, surgical teams, and charge nurses to ensure smooth handoffs and optimal care
• Perform focused neurologic and hemodynamic assessments (including NIHSS when applicable) and document findings clearly in the EHR
• Implement post-operative care plans, educate patients and families on recovery steps and discharge criteria
• Maintain high standards for infection control, equipment checks, and PACU protocols
• Participate in competency testing and skills checklists to promote consistent, excellent care

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse license (appropriate state licensure required)
• BLS certification (required)
• ACLS certification (required)
• NIHSS training/certification (listed as required)
• Completion of Trinity Skills Checklist and Trinity Specialty Specific Competency Testing
• Completed health requirements: immunizations, fit test, drug screen and physical/health statement as listed
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced post-anesthesia care environment and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams

Knowledge & Skills

• Post-anesthesia assessment and PACU protocols
• Airway, breathing and circulation monitoring and interventions
• Pain management and medication administration in the PACU setting
• Strong clinical documentation and handoff communication skills
• Familiarity with perioperative workflows and safety checks
• Competency with emergency response and ACLS/BLS procedures
• Patient- and family-centered education and discharge planning
