Roles & Responsibilities

• Scrub and circulate during orthopedic joint and trauma cases with precision and confidence
• Provide airway management and maintain strict aseptic technique to protect patient safety
• Support a variety of specialty cases including ENT, ophthalmology, plastics, podiatry, GYN, general and endoscopic/laparoscopic surgery
• Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists and perioperative staff to ensure smooth, efficient operations
• Float to other UCSF units and facilities as needed, adapting quickly to different teams and workflows
• Participate in block scheduling and holiday coverage while maintaining high standards of care
• Maintain accurate perioperative documentation and uphold regulatory and facility policies

Qualifications

• Current California Registered Nurse (RN) license
• AHA BLS and ACLS certifications (current)
• PDRN credential (as listed in role requirements)
• Minimum of 3 years of Operating Room nursing experience, with strong ortho scrubbing experience
• Comfortable both scrubbing and circulating across orthopedic joints, ENT, ophthalmology, plastics and other specialties
• Willing and able to float to other UCSF units and facilities as needed
• COVID-19 vaccination plus booster required per facility guideline (medical/religious exemptions only)

Knowledge & Skills

• Orthopedic scrub and circulating expertise including total joint and spinal procedures
• Experience with arthroscopy, ACL reconstruction, laminectomy/discectomy and fracture management
• Familiarity with general surgery, endoscopic/laparoscopic procedures, gynecology and plastics
• Aseptic technique and airway management skills
• Ability to function in block scheduling environments and adapt to fast-paced OR settings
• Strong teamwork, communication and situational awareness in the surgical suite
