Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, patient-centered nursing care for MedSurg, telemetry, ortho and trauma patients
• Manage post-operative and acute medical patients including joint replacements, fractures, GI bleeds, pneumonia and sepsis
• Titrate drips safely and accurately (heparin, lidocaine, ketamine) and manage PCA pumps per protocol
• Perform thorough hourly rounding and communicate proactively with the care team to ensure timely discharges and admissions
• Collaborate with tele/monitor techs and maintain tele-awareness to escalate issues appropriately
• Use EPIC for accurate charting and handoffs to maintain continuity of care
• Delegate appropriately and support nursing aides/patient care techs to optimize patient throughput
• Participate in unit-based initiatives to improve patient experience and safety (e.g., safe patient handling and mechanical lift use)

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for Nebraska submission
• BLS (AHA) required at time of submission
• ACLS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience (MedSurg/Telemetry/Ortho experience strongly preferred)
• Valid driver’s license required at submission to verify radius eligibility
• Willingness to pass a unit skills exam during orientation (90% required to continue assignment)
• Ability to float to other medical-surgical areas as needed and work holidays as scheduled
• Comfort using EPIC and managing telemetry patients and titratable drips

Education

• Active RN license required; ADN or BSN accepted (BSN not required per job posting)

Knowledge & Skills

• MedSurg nursing and ortho/trauma care
• Telemetry awareness and cardiac rhythm recognition
• IV/drip titration (heparin, lidocaine, ketamine) and PCA pump management
• Proficiency with EPIC electronic charting
• Safe patient handling and mechanical lift operation
• Strong assessment, prioritization, and time-management skills for high-volume days
• Cultural competence and ability to serve diverse patient populations (Spanish, Karen, Burmese speakers among others)
• Effective communication and teamwork in an acute care, Level 1 trauma environment
